Sunjay Kapur, well-known businessman and ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away at the age of 53 in the United Kingdom under unfortunate circumstances.

The well-known polo player was known for his intense engagement with the sport and was playing polo when a bee entered his mouth and stung him, causing a fatal heart attack.

Despite getting immediate medical attention, his life could not be saved.

To Rani Kapur and industrialist Surinder Kapur, founder of the illustrious Sona Group, Sunjay was born. He was instrumental in taking the family business to greater heights.

He joined the business in 2003 and was responsible for guiding it towards international fame. In his tenure, the company diversified its operations and turned into a major player in electric vehicle components with its subsidiary Sona Comstar, where he was the Chairman.

Sunjay's academic journey began at The Doon School in Dehradun before moving to Mumbai’s Cathedral and John Connon School. He later pursued a BBA in Corporate Strategy and Human Resources from a university in London. Beyond the boardroom, Kapur had a deep-rooted passion for polo and horses, a pursuit that defined much of his personal identity.

In his personal life, Sunjay's relationships were also subject to public scrutiny. His initial marriage was with fashion designer Nandita Mahtani. The couple separated in 2000. He then married actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple had two children — a daughter Samaira and a son Kiaan — before their split in 2016. Even though the couple split up, the two remained co-parents to their kids.

Sunjay married model-turned-entrepreneur Priya Sachdev in his third marriage. The couple have a son, Azarius, born in 2018. Priya has another daughter, Safira Chatwal, from her earlier marriage.

A keen polo player, Kapur established and sponsored his own team, Aureus. He was playing a game against Sujan, which is a team owned by hotelier Jaisal Singh, when the sad accident happened.

Sunjay Kapur's death leaves behind a legacy that cuts across the business, sporting, and high society realms.
