Ben Affleck recently spoke out about the breakdown of his marriage to Jennifer Lopez, stressing that their split was free from scandal or soap opera drama.
During an interview with GQ, Affleck explained, "There's no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue. It's just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships.
He expounded that their divorce was not triggered by any one dramatic event but rather a natural course in their developing relationship. Affleck noted that as people age, their own outlooks and attitudes may change, which can have an impact on the dynamics of a relationship.
Rebutting public gossip, Affleck refuted the idea that Lopez's documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, exposed secret motives for their breakup. He explained that the documentary did not expose any underlying problems for their divorce.
Despite their separation, Affleck expressed profound respect for Lopez, particularly admiring her adeptness at handling fame—a challenge he admits to grappling with. He acknowledged that being in a relationship with a highly public figure like Lopez presents unique challenges.
Affleck also spoke about his unease in discussing personal information about their divorce, terming it as "embarrassing" and too personal to be openly discussed. He clarified that there was no single incidence or fault that caused their divorce, but rather a shared experience of self-discovery and learning.
During these disclosures, Affleck still speaks highly of Lopez and has a good co-parenting relationship with his former wife, Jennifer Garner, whom he calls a "wonderful" co-parent.
