Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon has launched a furious attack on the approaching US presidential election, claiming she is "really worried" President Joe Biden might lose his re-election to former President Donald Trump.
She said, "Yes," when asked if the president should consider stepping aside from the race. She went on further to add that this feeling was shared by many inside the Democratic Party.
I don't feel that our vote has been well-represented just yet," Sarandon told Variety recently, from the New York premiere of summer comedy The Fabulous Four, teaming Sarandon with Sheryl Lee Ralph, Megan Mullally and Bette Midler. "It's obvious why a resignation would be in order. Since years, the problem in Gaza is something of great concern to independent voters in swing states and now it can hurt his re-election chances."
This is not the first time the Hollywood Democrats have raised such comments for Joe Biden to step aside. In fact, another major player in Hollywood, George Clooney, wrote an op-ed urging the president to "step aside" earlier this month.
Sarandon has been involved with Democratic politics since pretty deep back, and much of her political advocacy came before her acting career. She was one of Bernie Sanders' most visible supporters in 2016 and later endorsed Green Party candidate Jill Stein over Hillary Clinton after Sanders lost the Democratic nomination.
