Supreme Court Halts Screening of 'Hamare Baarah' Starring Annu Kapoor

Earlier, the Bombay High Court, on June 7, had vacated an interim stay on the film's release, which a CBFC-appointed panel had requested more time to give a non-biased assessment. Justices Kamal Khata and Rajesh S. Patil of the high court accepted that certain controversial dialogues were to be voluntarily deleted by filmmakers themselves.

The Supreme Court has stayed the release of the Bollywood film 'Hamare Baarah' until the time the Bombay High Court decides upon a petition seeking to restrain its release. A vacation bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath directed the high court to dispose of the petition challenging the certification granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on a priority basis. The bench rejected the contention of the filmmakers that they had removed the objectionable portions from the movie's teaser. "We viewed the teaser this morning and found that it still contains those offensive dialogues."
