Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal officially tied the knot on Sunday after clearance of all legal formalities of a civil marriage.
The party was held in Sonakshi's sprawling sea-facing 26-storey apartment in Bandra West, which reached out to only very close friends and relatives. Among those present were her parents, the Bollywood veteran and newly-elected Lok Sabha MP from Asansol, Shatrughan Sinha, along with his wife, Poonam, and a close friend and co-star of 'Double XL,' Huma Qureshi.
Immediately after the intimate ceremony, the couple shared pictures of the first ones as husband and wife on social media, giving a glimpse of their wedding attire. Sonakshi beamed in an ivory-and-gold saree, pairing it with a kundan choker, matching earrings, and bangles. Her hair was neatly tied into a bun and adorned with gajra. Her makeup was subtle and her natural beauty shone through. She had delicate mehendi on her hands. Zaheer looked striking in a white sherwani.
One of the pictures has Zaheer kissing Sonakshi's hand, with her radiating joy. Another heartwarming picture is of Shatrughan Sinha as he holds his daughter's hand while she is signing the marriage documents.
Their social media post read: "On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife."
"Here’s to love, hope and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever," it added.
Following their marriage, the newlyweds sent sweets to the paparazzi outside, with a heartfelt note that said, "Thank you for showering us with so much love, happiness and kindness on the most important day of our lives! Your support and wishes mean the world to us. Lots of love, Sonakshi and Zaheer."
With the legalities behind them, attention turned to their reception at Bastian, a modern Asian-inspired restaurant on Linking Road in Mumbai. Early guests included Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi’s 'Heeramandi' co-star, and her fiancé, South Indian star Siddharth. Among the first to reach was Zaheer's 'Ruslaan' co-star, Aayush Sharma, who happens to be Salman Khan's brother-in-law and the matchmaker between the two.
Manisha Koirala, who couldn't attend due to commitments back home, sent across flowers with her best wishes. The reception had a black and red color scheme as its theme, with a lovely display of red flowers and a red carpet.
Sonakshi and Zaheer, who affectionately calls him her 'personal psycho,' have been in a relationship for seven years. Salman Khan, who launched Sonakshi’s Bollywood career with 'Dabangg' (2010), introduced the couple on the sets of Zaheer’s debut film, 'Notebook,' produced by Salman, in 2017.
