Sia has filed for divorce from her second husband, Daniel Bernad, after two years of marriage. The 49-year-old singer, whose real name is Sia Furler, filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to People magazine.
The Chandelier songstress gave "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, reported femalefirst.co.uk. Court filings also unveiled that Sia had given birth in secret to her third child—and her first with Bernad—on March 27, 2024.
Sia, who welcomed two teenage boys as adoptive sons in 2019, is now requesting both legal and physical custody of their baby boy. But the pop star has offered to grant visitation rights to her estranged husband.
The two had wed in December 2022, and they toasted their marriage with an intimate, candlelit reception in Portofino, Italy, in May 2023 with only six guests present.
Though Sia hasn't publicly confirmed the arrival of her third child yet, she had made an announcement about adopting her two teen sons in 2020 on SiriusXM. "I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18 — they're both 19 now. They were ageing out of the foster care system. Yeah, and I love them," she had stated then.
Even though she loves her sons, Sia confessed that the adjustment period has not been easy. "They are both finding it quite hard, one more so than the other. But they're both doing some things that are really good for them at the moment, that are really helpful. They're really doing a lot of learning things that are good for them," she said.
Sia started her music career in the late 1990s as part of the acid jazz group Crisp. With the breakup of the band in 1997, she recorded her first album OnlySee in Australia before shifting to London and working with British duo Zero 7. Her next albums, Healing Is Difficult (2001) and Colour the Small One (2004), only served to consolidate her position in the music industry.
