Sachin Pilgaonkar, the veteran actor, has ventured into devotional music with his latest offering, ''Ramayan Ki Chaupaaiyaan''. Pilgaonkar shared that he feels a divine intervention led him to sing this sacred song, stating that destiny played a crucial role, as the same verses were picturized on him 44 years ago in the 1975 film ''Geet Gaata Chal''.
The 66-year-old multihyphenate, known for his roles as an actor, writer, filmmaker, and singer, expressed his gratitude for this opportunity, emphasizing that it was a God-given chance. Despite having over 200 songs to his credit as a singer, many people are not aware of his work in this domain. Pilgaonkar mentioned that singing took a back seat in his multifaceted career, with acting, directing, producing, and writing taking precedence.
''Ramayan Ki Chaupaaiyaan,'' an 8.44-minute music video released on YouTube, is directed and produced by Deepak Pandit. Pilgaonkar acknowledged his good fortune in having played the roles of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna in various films. He played Lord Ram as a child artist in the Marathi film ''Swayamvar Zale Siteche'' (1964) and later portrayed Lord Krishna in films like Homi Wadia's ''Shri Krishna Leela'' (1971) and the 1979 movie ''Gopal Krishna''.
Expressing his joy at playing these iconic roles, Pilgaonkar mentioned that while he wasn't approached to play Lord Ram again, he has had the pleasure of portraying Lord Krishna twice. He also highlighted his devotion to Lord Ganesh.
''Ramayan Ki Chaupaaiyaan'' is part of Shemaroo's 'Shri Ram Bhakti Utsav,' an exclusive musical series celebrating the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The series features traditional songs and new creations sung by legendary artists, including Suresh Wadkar and Pilgaonkar, among others.
