Renowned Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas Passes Away at 72 Following Prolonged Illness

Udhas, whose soulful voice resonated not only in the world of ghazals but also in Bollywood through hits like “Naam”, “Saajan”, and “Mohra”, breathed his last around 11 am at Breach Candy Hospital, according to a family source.

Renowned ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas, celebrated for timeless classics like “Chitthi Ayee Hai” and “Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein”, passed away in Mumbai on Monday after battling a prolonged illness, confirmed his daughter Nayab. He was 72.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on February 26, 2024, after a prolonged illness,” Nayab shared in an Instagram post, expressing the family's profound grief.
 

The final rites are scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
