It's finally here—Prime Video has just dropped the long-anticipated trailer for the second season of its fantasy epic, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The trailer made its first appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday and was accompanied by a panel moderated by actress Yvette Nicole Brown.
"The Rings of Power" is showrun and executive produced by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, while it leans hard on J.R.R. Tolkien's appendices in "The Lord of the Rings" that deal with the Second Age of Middle-earth. This season unveils the origin story of the iconic rings of power as it features some fan favorites from the renowned Peter Jackson trilogy in their earlier years.
This series, set millennia before events portrayed in Tolkien's famous books, gives a background into the making of powerful rings that were at the core of Dark Lord Sauron's quest to dominate Middle-earth.
Right after the maiden season of "The Rings of Power" dropped in September 2022, fans were left on tenterhooks. A second-season trailer recently dropped, hinting at Sauron's return to the dark side; after ages of peace in the realms of Middle-earth, darkness and evil are back.
There is also a shot of the forging of other Rings of Power, where insidious influence from Sauron begins to play out.
The official logline for the second season of "The Rings of Power" states, "Sauron returns. Dispossessed by Galadriel, and bereft of both army and allies, the Dark Lord must depend on his own wiles to regain his power and supervise the fashioning of the Rings of Power that will enable him, at last, to bend all the Peoples of Middle-earth to his Fell will.".
The series stars Charlie Vickers as Sauron, alongside Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Prince Durin IV, Ismael Cruz Cordova as Arondir, and Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor.
The team that will be working on season two will consist of Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, with Charlotte Brandstrom as the co-executive producer and director. Some other producers and co-producers joining the production team include Kate Hazell, Helen Shang, Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins, and Matthew Penry-Davey.
