Paul Giamatti Reflects on Oscar Nomination, Feeling Assurance that He 'Did the Right Thing' with His Life

In 'The Holdovers,' Giamatti portrays a cantankerous teacher at a New England boarding school, tasked with overseeing a small group of students during the holidays. The film explores the teacher's interactions with a grieving cook (played by Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who also received a nomination) and a rebellious senior seeking trouble (newcomer Dominic Sessa).

Esteemed actor Paul Giamatti has earned his much-deserved first lead nomination at the upcoming Oscars, a significant milestone after coming close with another Alexander Payne collaboration, 'Sideways,' in 2004. Giamatti has secured a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Alexander Payne's 'The Holdovers,' alongside fellow nominees Bradley Cooper ('Maestro'), Colman Domingo ('Rustin'), Cillian Murphy ('Oppenheimer'), and Jeffrey Wright ('American Fiction'), as reported by 'The Hollywood Reporter.'

According to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' the film has garnered five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Original Screenplay.

Reflecting on his nomination, Giamatti expressed, “I have been lucky to be acknowledged before. And I really love this movie. There’s something special about that. I’m older than I was 20 years ago, obviously. I think there’s a way in which I feel a little bit like, ‘OK, I can relax. I actually did the right thing with my life. And I’m going to work again, and I can recognize that I’ve done some good stuff, and I can feel good about it.’ That’s a lot for me to say. So, it’s a really good thing. It feels nice coming at this time of my life."
