Mouni Roy is taking on a spine-tingling role in the new horror-action-comedy The Bhootnii, in which she plays a ghost named Mohabbat. But there's more to her performance than just creepy atmosphere—Mouni performed all of her own stunts for the film, adding an added level of realism to the character.
In a unique behind-the-scenes expose, Mouni revealed, "I have done all my stunts myself in the film. I am fortunately trained and have grown accustomed to wearing harnesses and performing stunts, courtesy of my earlier work. So it was a quite easy process. I believe stunts are a kind of choreography and I am a reasonable dancer and a fast learner."
The actress attributed her earlier experiences on supernatural series such as Naagin and fantasy saga Brahmastra for preparing her with the ability required for a role so grueling. "Shooting for 2 full seasons of a supernatural TV series and a full fantasy fiction film provided me with all the practice required for The Bhootnii. To add to it, the movie had a wonderful stunt team, and my co-actors were wonderful," she added.
Acting alongside Mouni in this offbeat horror comedy is Sanjay Dutt, playing the role of a ghostbuster baba—his first.
A household name for his trademark comic timing and larger-than-life presence on screen, Sanjay revealed what made him take on the project: "I love comedies. The Bhootnii is a film that is a good mix of horror and comedy.". Actually, horror comedy is one of the most difficult genres to break into. But, when I heard the script, I felt that it could entertain the audience. I was drawn towards my role. I am playing a ghostbuster baba for the first time. I enjoyed a lot while playing this character, which has mass appeal.
Produced under the Soham Rockstar Entertainment banner, the movie is supported by producers Deepak Mukut, Sanjay Dutt, Hunar Mukut, and Maanayata Dutt. It's being released in association with Three Dimension Motion Pictures.
Completing the film's diverse cast are Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari, Beyounick, and Aasif Khan—promising a unique mix of horror, action, and humor.
The Bhootnii will release in theaters on April 18, 2025.
