The actress Monalisa, who is currently playing the role of Mohini in the supernatural show Shamshaan Champa, has spoken on the issue of stereotyping into one particular genre as an artiste within the industry.
Shamshaan Champa marks the return of Monalisa as 'daayan', television's favorite, building excitement among fans. Her stunning presence and supernatural abilities keep Monalisa at winning streaks and enthral audiences to achieve her goals.
On being typecast, Monalisa says, "As an actor, doing different roles is important for any actor to grow professionally. I have done 125 positive roles without being stereotyped as a particular genre of actor, but doing just two or three negative roles, and people stereotyped me as an artist. I take it positively-which means I am performing well and being thought of for such roles.
She added, "At least let me do 50-60 negative roles before typecasting me. Even within negative roles, I've embraced many shades and nuances-each offering something unique."
My character in Shamshaan Champa is completely different from the ones I have played till now. A new look, new powers-the show provides a new dimension to my artistry and I am enjoying each bit of it. Generally, I enjoy taking on new challenges because that's an opportunity to experience something new and that keeps me growing as an actor."

Workwise, Monalisa, whose real name is Antara Biswas, has acted in several Bhojpuri films such as Ranbhoomi, Hum Hai Khalnayak, Jade Mein Balma Pyara Lage, Nathuniya Pe Goli Maare, Devra Bada Satawela, Pocket Gangsters and Pawan Raja. She has also starred in TV programs like Laal Banarasi, Bekaboo, Namak Issk Ka, Mata Ki Mahima, Nazar 2 and Nach Baliye 8.
Monalisa also featured in Bigg Boss 10, where Manveer Gurjar was declared a winner, besides going ahead to feature in other films such as Bunty Aur Babli, Blackmail, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, and Kaafila among others.
