Mikey Madison's quest to a galaxy far, far away has been stopped short before it even began.
Having recently won her first Best Actress Oscar for Anora, Madison walked away from her first major endeavor since awards time—a role in director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars pic. Variety tells us that things fell apart at the negotiating table between Madison and the production camp, with Madison bowing out of the job.
The new film, written by Jonathan Tropper and featuring Ryan Gosling, is being made as a standalone story in the Star Wars saga. It is not related to the Skywalker Saga, which concluded with 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Levy, whose credits include Deadpool & Wolverine, was hired onto the project in late 2022 and also will produce under his 21 Laps banner in association with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
So far, details of the plot remain under wraps.
This untitled project would star The Mandalorian & Grogu—the sole Star Wars film in production at the moment, slated for release on May 22, 2026.
At the tender age of 26, Madison has built a robust career with show-stopping roles in FX's Better Things, Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood, and Scream 5. However, it was her breakout in Sean Baker's Anora that proved to be the clincher—her first major film without an audition.
Reflecting on her journey, Madison recently shared, “I was scrolling through my Dropbox the other day and saw hundreds of auditions I’ve done—so many hours of work.”
While she won’t be appearing in this Star Wars installment, all eyes are on what she’ll choose next in this exciting new chapter of her career.
