Singer-songwriter Madonna spent her birthday in Pompeii, Italy, surrounded by friends, family, and a group of youth from an art initiative she supports.
The Queen of Pop, who just turned 66, shared her evening with members from the project Sogno di Volare—Dream of Flying—which offers the chance for local youth to perform in classical shows at the ancient theatre in the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, according to People magazine.
With about 30 people, including her rumored boyfriend, soccer player Akeem Morris, and her twin 11-year-old daughters Estere and Stella by her side, Madonna made an entrance at the ancient site as hundreds of fans cheered for her.
Madonna shared glamorous photos in celebration of her 66th birthday on Instagram, featuring herself, her twins, and a shirtless Morris, captioned: "Back in Italy. Happy Birthday to ME."
The pop star and her entourage made a quick appearance just after 10:30 p.m. local time for the performance, while fans had been in line since 6 p.m. The crowd—close to 200 fans, sang Madonna's songs and danced around in what seemed to be an effort to kill time waiting for her to arrive. The trio has been given a guided tour at the historic site by park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel. Madonna and her entourage were treated to several performances, including that of a chorus of teenagers and young children in the Dream of Flying project, singing in Italian, Neapolitan, and English.
The Dream of Flying is an event involving the local community in the cultural activities of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii—a UNESCO World Heritage site—entirely financed by Madonna until 2025 through her Ray of Light Foundation.
Madonna was spotted in Italy for the first time with Morris to celebrate her birthday as rumors of romance emerged between them in July 2024. She was spotted arriving by boat in some secluded spot in Portofino.
