Lindsay Lohan Reflects on Her Netflix Rom-Coms: 'I Can’t Do These Forever'

Following a string of three back-to-back romantic comedies for Netflix, Lindsay Lohan insists that she's prepared to venture into other creative fields, with a wish to explore beyond the genre that saw her recently achieve success on streaming platforms.

Although Lohan, who is 38 now, enjoys the warmth and happiness such films bring, she said it's time for something different. "I always want to make these kinds of movies. things that make people happy and bring people together. I love making movies for that reason, for people to escape and find something that they can take into their own life and realize everything's going to be okay," she told Elle magazine.

But with Netflix, I was like, 'Okay, now we need to be thinking about other stuff.' I can't do movies like these forever.

Next for Lohan is Freakier Friday, the sequel to Disney's popular 2003 movie Freaky Friday. The original, also directed by Mark Waters, cast Lohan alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in a comedy about a mother and daughter who somehow exchange bodies. Both women are reprising for the sequel.

Looking back at the experience of working on the sequel, Lohan spoke of a feeling of ease and happiness. "I think that everything just felt comfortable when we were doing it, and I feel like that's the way I can best describe how I felt when I saw it. It felt easy, and funky, and fresh at the same time. There's not much motivating me to the movie theaters these days," she said.

Defining Freakier Friday as a positive movie, Lohan continued, "It's a feel-good film, which is what I want to provide for people. And it's fun. When I saw the second cut, I wanted to stand up and dance at the end. I was like, 'Oh, this is great. I love this song. I want people to do that.'

Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Jordan Weiss, will hit theaters on August 8. Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, and Lucille Soong are also part of the cast.
