'Laapataa Ladies' Selected as India's Official Entry for Oscars 2025

One of the contenders for the best international picture category at the Academy Awards is Aamir Khan and Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies', said a unanimous vote by the 13-member selection committee, which is headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua. The list includes Tamil 'Maharaja', Telugu films 'Kalki 2898 A'D and 'HanuMan', and Hindi films 'Swatantraya Veer Savarkar' and 'Article 370'. To recall, it was last year when the Malayalam superhit '2018: Everyone is a Hero' was released.

It is a day to be glad for Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and all 'Laapataa Ladies'. Kiran Rao's film has been chosen as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025. Official word came on Monday from the Film Federation of India. The cast features Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Pratibha Ranta in lead roles. A light-hearted satire on patriarchy, 'Laapataa Ladies' has been short-listed from 29 films, including the Bollywood smash 'Animal', Malayalam National Award winner 'Aattam', and Cannes winner 'All We Imagine As Light'.

**Box Office Report**

The film had a very slow opening on March 1. But the good word of mouth and some positive reviews did the trick for the movie. According to Sacnilk, the movie opened to just Rs 75 lakh and minted nearly Rs 4 crore in the opening weekend. It grossed Rs 6.05 crore in the first week, and the cumulative box office collection of 'Laapataa Ladies' after 50 days of theatrical release reached Rs 17.31 crore.

About the Film

Laapataa Ladies' is produced and directed by Kiran Rao, in collaboration with Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions. The script has been written by Sneha Desai for the film, in addition to dialogues written down by Divyanidhi Sharma, on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami.
