Kate Winslet, an Oscar-winning actor, reveals that she is more frequently recognized for her role in the 2006 romantic comedy "The Holiday" than for her iconic performance in the 1997 disaster epic "Titanic."
During an appearance on "The Tonight Show" with host Jimmy Fallon, Winslet was asked if she anticipated the success of "The Holiday," a Christmas-themed film directed by Nancy Meyers. In response, Winslet shared, "People approach me on the street more often about 'The Holiday' and the episode of 'Extras' (TV show) that I did than 'Titanic'. I assure you. Especially at Christmas."
In James Cameron's acclaimed blockbuster "Titanic," Winslet starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as characters from different social backgrounds who fall in love amidst the tragic voyage of the Titanic.
In contrast, "The Holiday" follows the story of two heartbroken women, portrayed by Winslet and Cameron Diaz, who exchange homes to escape their respective romantic woes during the holiday season.
Winslet, aged 48, also expressed that many women inform her they make it a tradition to watch the romantic comedy every Christmas.
She shared, "What's particularly heartwarming is that mothers and daughters approach me in the supermarket and tell me, 'We just adore 'The Holiday'. It's our little Christmas tradition.' They have specific things they do each year. They sit down together—it's a tradition—and I find that delightful. It's something I never anticipated, this kind of mother-daughter bond centered around a film like that. It's truly lovely."
