Filmmaker Karan Johar has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter referenced his landmark film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai while addressing a gathering in Jakarta. Sharing his reaction on Tuesday, the director said he was deeply touched by the Prime Minister's mention of the film and its enduring legacy.
Highlighting the widespread appeal of Indian cinema in Indonesia, PM Modi referred to the title track of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji, during his speech. He said, “Yahan Bharat ka gana ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ bahut hi lokpriya hai. Aaj maine is par kaha ki jab Bharat aur Indonesia saath milkar chalte hain, toh ‘kuch kuch’ se bhi aage badhkar ‘bahut kuch’ hota hai. (Here, India’s song ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ is very popular. When India and Indonesia move forward together, a lot more will happen."
The Prime Minister's remark used the film's title as a play on words to underline the possibilities of stronger cooperation between India and Indonesia.
Reacting to the moment, Karan Johar reposted the video on the Stories section of his official Instagram account and shared a note of appreciation. The filmmaker wrote, “Elated & honoured to have our esteemed Prime Minister @narendramodi ji speak about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in Jakarta. There is indeed a language that transcends all it’s love. Thank you for embracing & making this song live forever!!! (sic)."
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai marked Karan Johar's directorial debut and was produced by his father, Yash Johar. The romantic drama featured Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in lead roles, with Salman Khan and Sana Saeed playing pivotal characters.
