For the role, Comer spent hours in freezing water, braving sub-zero conditions near Lochgilphead, in Argyll and Bute. The director, Mahalia Belo, praised Comer for her commitment to portraying the truth in her character's experiences, even undergoing the process of getting prosthetic baby bellies fitted for authenticity.
Belo mentioned that Comer, despite not being a mother herself, was dedicated to understanding the nuances of the character's journey, including the way one holds their body during pregnancy, the pain, and the stages of labor. The director highlighted Comer's commitment to serving the role properly and creating a truthful depiction of a woman's story from pregnancy to the first year.
