Renowned filmmaker David O. Russell is set to direct the upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic, featuring Selena Gomez in the lead role. Currently in pre-production, the music biopic has notable producers, including James Keach, responsible for the 2019 documentary 'Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,' and Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan.
Selena Gomez hinted at her involvement in the project earlier in the week, sharing a picture of Linda Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir 'Simple Dreams' on her Instagram story. While Gomez's participation is confirmed, no other cast members have been announced yet.
Linda Ronstadt, a music icon in country, rock 'n' roll, and Latin genres, gained fame for albums like 'Heart Like a Wheel' and 'Simple Dreams' in the 1970s. Her illustrious career includes 29 studio albums, 11 Grammy Awards, and recognition from both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy with Lifetime Achievement Awards. In 2014, Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
David O. Russell, an Oscar-nominated director and writer, has a track record of critically acclaimed films such as 'Three Kings' (1999), 'The Fighter' (2010), 'Silver Linings Playbook' (2011), and 'American Hustle' (2013). His most recent work, the 2022 mystery comedy 'Amsterdam,' featured Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington.
Aside from the Linda Ronstadt biopic, Russell is also involved in 'Super Toys,' a project that has Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen attached to star.
