According to Variety, Banijay Asia has acquired the rights from All3Media International to develop an Indian adaptation of the series 'The Tourist'.
Written by Harry and Jack Williams, 'The Tourist' stars Jamie Dornan as a man who wakes up in Australia with amnesia after a car accident.
"Seeking answers, he hitches up with a local woman who somehow recognizes him and offers to help him piece back together his identity," the logline reads. "The few clues that he finds suggest he's got a very dark past he needs to get as far away from as possible before it catches up with him."
The second season changes the backdrop to Ireland, where things only seem to get even more mysterious.
It is a brainchild of Two Brothers Pictures and Highview Productions, acclaimed for their gripping narrative style.
"We at Banijay are huge fans of Two Brothers and the thrilling masterpieces that they craft," said Mrinalini Jain, group chief development officer for Banijay Asia & EndemolShine India. "In 'The Tourist', we have this very special confluence of mystery and suspense that we simply believe will strike a deep chord with our viewers.". We are excited to be adapting this engrossing, internationally acclaimed series for Indian audiences. We believe our partnership with All3Media International forms a great base for retaining the soul of the show while giving it a fresh and unique Indian appeal.
"'The Tourist' has been a phenomenon across the globe, and they are thrilled to bring it to the Indian market in a localized form", says Sabrina Duguet, EVP for Asia Pacific at All3Media International. "Banijay Asia has an impressive track record for high-quality local adaptations, and we trust them as they come up with a great version of this globally loved thriller.". "We look forward to seeing how this story will be reimagined for an Indian viewer."
