‘Hugely Demotivating and Unjust,’ Kangana Reacts to Censor Hurdles for 'Emergency'

With only four days left for the release of her film Emergency, Kangana Ranaut has accused the CBFC of deliberately delaying the certification process to block the film's release. The actress, who plays the lead character of former PM Indira Gandhi, said she will seek a court intervention without any delay if the uncut version of her film is not cleared.

Actress Kangana Ranaut's forthcoming film Emergency, which was set for a release on September 6, got postponed due to a delay in its certification. Kangana took to social media on Monday and said that it is "hugely demotivating and unfair" that her forthcoming film Emergency faced censorship woes. Certification is yet to be granted by the CBFC for the film slated to hit the screens on September 6.

"An emergency has been imposed on my film too. It's a very hopeless state. I'm quite disappointed in our country and whatever the circumstances are. How much will we keep getting scared? I've made this film with a lot of self-respect which is why the CBFC can't point out any contention. They've stalled my certificate, but I'm determined to release an uncut version of the film. I'll fight in court and release an uncut version," she told Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast.

Sources close to PTI quote that Emergency will not be released because the makers are yet to receive any certification by CBFC. On this, Kangana Ranaut made an equation with the Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack on how only films based on historical events are censored, while the streaming platforms are free to project violence and nudity.

"Law of the land is that one can show unimaginable amount of violence and nudity on OTT platforms without any consequence or censorship, one can even distort real life events to suit their politically motivated sinister motives, there is all the freedom for communists or leftists across the world for such anti national expressions…"…but as a nationalist no OTT platform allows us to make films that revolves around the integrity and unity of Bharat, it seems censorship is only for some of us who don't want tukde of this nation and make films on historic facts. It's hugely demotivating and unfair," the actress wrote on X.

"The source shared with PTI, "Even though they have given a U/A certificate on their website, the makers have not received the copy of the certificate as yet. Every day there's a new cut being given to the film, which they are doing due to some pressure. Kangana is fighting for the sanctity of the film."

Kangana Ranaut stated that her security guards are pressuring her to delete that scene from her film, Emergency, alias the assassination scene of the former prime minister. Meanwhile, SAD has issued a legal notice to CBFC, demanding a stay on the movie. It also stated that the film can "incite communal tensions" and "spread misinformation," as, according to them, its trailer is depicting "erroneous historical facts" which would demote the Sikh community and spread hate and social intolerance.
