HBO Orders Third Season of 'House of the Dragon

While making the announcement, HBO's Executive Vice President of Programming, Francesca Orsi praised the co-creators, George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. "George, Ryan and our entire incredible team of executive producers, cast and crew have done phenomenal work in crafting the extraordinary second season of House of the Dragon", she said in a statement. "We are impressed by the immense, exhausting effort of the entire team to craft a show that is spectacular and deeply moving in its second season and one that resonates deeply. We look forward to continuing the saga of House Targaryen and seeing this team shine once more in season three."

The network renewed it for an additional season ahead of the premiere of the second season. According to The Hollywood reporter, HBO has renewed the show for the third season though it hasn't given the details of the number of episodes.

The new series, "House of the Dragon," is based on the book "Fire & Blood" by George R.R. Martin, which deals with the history of Westeros' fictional Targaryen dynasty. The setting takes place nearly two centuries before the events of "Game of Thrones," and a little more than a century since the Targaryens finished conquering the Seven Kingdoms. Still attracting audiences with the always-present intrigue in narration and immensity of its production, the series delights audiences with intrigue in the plot and immensity in its production.
