Despite their connection over shared experiences, Berry admitted that their friendship had a "rocky start." She believes that their initial challenges will contribute positively to their on-screen chemistry in 'Maude v Maude'.

The film marks Halle Berry's return to the director's chair since her 2020 directorial debut with the MMA drama 'Bruised'. Reflecting on her experience making 'Bruised', Berry described it as "hell" and highlighted the challenges she faced due to gender and race. She expressed gratitude to Netflix for acquiring the film, noting that being a woman and a black woman added extra hurdles, and the fact that the streaming platform bought it was, in her words, a "miracle."
