English director Guy Ritchie is teaming up with actor Jake Gyllenhaal once again to helm the sequel to 'Road House', Amazon MGM Studios' blockbuster action movie.
According to Variety, Gyllenhaal will reprise the role of Dalton, the ex-UFC fighter turned bar bouncer, which he originally played in the remake of the 1989 cult classic starring Patrick Swayze.
Entitled Road House 2, the film is Ritchie and Gyllenhaal's third together, and their second with Amazon MGM Studios after Guy Ritchie's The Covenant. They have also collaborated on upcoming action thriller In the Grey.
The script for the sequel is being written by Will Beall, who has worked on Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Plot details remain under wraps.
The production team comprises Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment, along with Gyllenhaal through his Nine Stories Productions and Josh McLaughlin. Ivan Atkinson will be the executive producer.
The original Road House rehash, released in March on Prime Video, was a streaming success. It attracted almost 80 million international viewers in its first two months, becoming Amazon MGM's biggest viewed produced movie opening globally, Jennifer Salke, the previous head of studio, said. News of the sequel came amid the studio's inaugural Upfronts presentation last summer.
The original movie starred Gyllenhaal's Dalton, a fighter who is down on his luck, as a bouncer for a Florida Keys bar, getting drawn into a bloody battle involving bikers, criminals, and a crooked developer. Conor McGregor debuted in acting in the movie as one of the major villains.
Ritchie still leads an active career, with box office hits such as Disney live-action Aladdin, which reached more than $1 billion internationally, and The Gentlemen, which went on to become a popular Netflix show now preparing to break out again with its second season.
