Uorfi is fast emerging as a phenomenon in her own right. Be it making unapologetic statements or breaking all kinds of social rules, she has emerged as a new digital sensation—and how! Love or hate her, you can't ignore her. And now, after creating all drama around the name, the influencer is coming up with a reality show—Follow Kar Lo Yaar—to give the audience a peek into her over-the-top life.
Follow Kar Lo Yaar does exactly what Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives do—give a voyeuristic view of Uorfi's life to the audience.
Like others, this reality show has the same formula – melodrama, family fights, different points of view, and professional tensions. However, while for others this was a reveal, in Uorfi's case, her life has already been on display for the people to watch. So somewhere down the line, it feels more like an extended version of her digital media presence.
The scene then cuts to Irrfan's wall-sized painting after a sequence with Uorfi. That was a rather jarring contrast it draws between an acting legend and an OTT digital queen. Not sure if it was intended by filmmaker Sandeep Kukreja, but sure was interesting.
It starts great, immediately equips your attention. The show introduces us to the quirky fashionista's sisters, family, and team in what looks like a failed attempt to copy Kardashians, maybe. But soon it becomes a snooze fest with repeated sequences of high-pitched tussle between Uorfi, her siblings, and managers.
What makes anything intriguing about Uorfi is Uorfi and her unmissable honesty. The same is what keeps Follow Kar Lo Yaar exciting. Refreshing to watch someone call herself greedy, not hungry or money can buy respect or acknowledge the existence and need of paps to stay relevant. She doesn't have any barriers or anything to hide from her fans.
It could have been more engrossing to watch Uorfi in her element as someone who has made a name with her unique fashion sensibility. The show could highlight the genius in her in piecing together an ensemble with almost anything and everything.
However it seems to be a strategic choice as she says in one of the episodes that now she wants to rise beyond her clothes. Also it is sad that much deep exploration into her struggles of becoming successful, or her childhood traumas isn't brought out by the show. It only touches them at the surface.
If you are in the mood for a Bigg Boss house drama led by Uorfi and her family, then you can binge-watch this nine-episode-long series. Watch Follow Kar Lo Yaar on Amazon Prime for this.
