Popular folk singer Sharda Sinha, who is being treated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), remains critical, her son said on Tuesday.
AIIMS, in a post on X, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously monitoring Sinha's condition and has prayed for her speedy recovery.
Folk songs in the dialects of Bhojpuri, Maithili and Maghahi are synonymous with Sinha, recipient of a Padma Bhushan. Sinha, 72, is on ventilator support at the intensive care unit of Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH), cancer institute of AIIMS, after being diagnosed with a complication arising from multiple myeloma, blood cancer.
Sinha's son Anshuman Singh said his mother is "fighting for her life."
"Her condition is critical. Doctors are worried as my mother is still on ventilator. There are fake news reports of her death going viral on social media.
" Doctors are doing their best. We pray that she comes out of this. This is a tough time, please pray for us," Singh said in a live video shared on Sinha's official YouTube channel on Tuesday.
X, AIIMS posted: "Noted folk singer Smt. Sharda Sinha is undergoing treatment in AIIMS, New Delhi. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji continues to be in close touch with the medical team and is being informed about her condition. His good wishes for her recovery have been conveyed to the treating team."
Union minister Giriraj Singh visited the ailing artist in AIIMS later in the day.
