But now, actress Emma Roberts has finally expressed herself about the recent casting in the biopic of the pop star.
The news started to get cooked when Spears' assistant dropped a word that Roberts will be playing the singer in the biopic taken from Spears' memoir The Woman In Me. "Well, the suggestion really excites me, thinking of how I have been preparing for almost 20 years," Roberts said.
"I was like, I love her assistant," Roberts told Cosmo, as reported by deadline.com. "I mean it's my true dream to play Britney Spears. It's a rumour, but I hope maybe it'll come true. I mean I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, 'I cannot leave this room until I memorise every word.'"
Robyn Roberts also related to Spears on a personal level: "I mean, I sing Britney to my son in the bath all of the time. I'm always like, 'God he must think I'm so weird.' That's some millennial parenting."
Spears' longtime assistant Felicia Culotta had, years ago, floated Roberts as the right choice for the part because her experience as a teen star on Unfabulous would help her relate to what Spears was going through as an adolescent on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. Culotta had, at the same time, recommended Timothée Chalamet to play Spears' ex, Justin Timberlake, and Drew Barrymore as herself, since she's worked as Spears' personal assistant since 1997.
Roberts, mainly associated with the horror and thriller genres of movies, first appeared on screen as a 10-year-old in the 2001 crime film Blow. Other films she has appeared in are Aquamarine, Nancy Drew, Wild Child, Hotel For Dogs, Valentine's Day, It's Kind of a Funny Story, and The Art of Getting By.
