Film fans have something to smile about as a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is officially in production, reports Variety.
The sequel will be directed by award-winning director David Fincher, with Quentin Tarantino returning as screenwriter. The production is underway at Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look agreement.
Brad Pitt will be reprising his Oscar-winning stint as Cliff Booth, the charming stuntman of the original film. Although Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) did have Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, it is uncertain whether they will be back for the sequel, according to Variety.
The initial film, released by Sony Pictures, was a nostalgic tribute to Hollywood's golden era. But since Tarantino owned the rights to the story, he has been able to take the sequel to Netflix instead.
This comes after Tarantino shelved his previously announced tenth film, The Movie Critic, which was originally supposed to star Pitt in the leading role.
Speculation has previously hinted that Pitt's role in The Movie Critic would be similar to Cliff Booth, but it has now been officially confirmed that he will be reprising his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood character in this sequel.
The movie is another thrilling joint venture between Fincher and Pitt, who also collaborated on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Fincher also directed two movies for Netflix, Mank and The Killer, so this movie is among the most eagerly anticipated upcoming titles.
More information on the sequel's title and further cast members remains to be unveiled.
