Hollywood legend Tom Cruise, gearing up for the release of 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' soon, attended the premiere of the film's eighth installment in New York. During his speech there, Cruise said that he would not change a single thing about the franchise.
The film's premiere occurred at Lincoln Center, where Cruise was accompanied by director and long-time collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, as well as co-stars Angela Bassett, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Tramell Tillman, and Nick Offerman.
Casting his mind back over his long association with the successful action franchise, Cruise explained to people.com that if he had the opportunity to do it all again, he would not alter a thing.
"I did the best you can, and it's showing all the efforts of everyone concerned at that point in time. I watched it and I really see what it takes to create these films and what I've learned about storytelling (in) this specific genre," he clarified.
Cruise also mentioned Michael B. Jordan's surprise visit to the London premiere, where the two shared a friendly moment and hugged, according to people.com.
He described it as "wonderful" to see the success of the 'Sinners' actor.
"He's incredibly talented. He's a wonderful actor. He's committed to his work. I have tremendous respect for him. I love to see individuals do well in life," Cruise said. "I've worked very hard to do everything I can to assist people, watch them do well — film people, actors. Folks know my door is open."
Cruise's attendance at the premiere follows closely behind the film's five-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 14.
The latest 'Mission: Impossible' installment appropriately integrates narrative threads from throughout the franchise's 30-year run.
The story revolves around Ethan Hunt, portrayed by Cruise, who and his squad engage in a battle with a superior artificial intelligence named the Entity. The AI, made public in 2023's 'Dead Reckoning,' becomes a threat to the entire world if it reaches the hands of the wrong people or achieves self-autonomous control.
"Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning" will hit theaters on May 23.
