After gaining applause for his cameo in the blockbuster "Stree 2", Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan is entering into a completely new cinematic venture, which somehow gives a nod to the '90s era.
Varun is going to feature in the upcoming war film "Border 2." Sunny Deol took to Instagram after the major success of "Gadar 2" last year and extended a warm welcome to Varun for this new chapter of the franchise.
In the video posted by Sunny, the strong voice-over is by Varun: "I face every enemy bullet with a salute of 'Jai Hind'. When Mother Earth calls, I come leaving everything behind." Tucked in with it is Sonu Nigam's "Aye Guzarane Waali Hawa," adding a slice of nostalgia and patriotism.
The emotion that the character of Varun conveys is the same as what Suniel Shetty's character had expressed in the original "Border." His character in that film was strongly identified with the concept of Dharti Maa, or Mother Earth. It could be the character of Varun in "Border 2" that will be shown as the son of the character played by Shetty in the first film.
The film will star Varun alongside Sunny Deol, Siddharth Chaturvedi, Vedant Raina, and Aditya Roy Kapur as the lead stars. Anurag Singh is the director of the film.
If "Border" chronicled the Battle of Longewala, then "Border 2" will retain the same flavor with the 1999 Kargil War, a conflict where Pakistani forces surreptitiously infiltrated Indian territory, mainly in the Kargil district. A massive military and diplomatic effort by India was undertaken to regain the territory and succeeded in recapturing nearly 75–80% of the territory and almost all strategic high ground.
"Border 2" is a Gulshan Kumar & T-Series and J.P. Films production. Producers include Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The release date is on the 23rd of January 2026.
