Bombay HC Update: Police Say No Evidence of Assault in Disha Salian Case

This filing takes place even as her father, Satish Salian, still insists his daughter was gangraped and killed.

The Mumbai Police have filed before the Bombay High Court that there is no evidence of foul play in the death of former celebrity manager Disha Salian, who died by suicide, according to them.

This filing takes place even as her father, Satish Salian, still insists his daughter was gangraped and killed.

In an affidavit filed before the High Court last month, police stated that Disha Salian jumped from the window of a high-rise apartment “out of her own volition.” The postmortem findings, according to the affidavit, revealed no evidence of sexual or physical assault.

The document further explains that Salian was experiencing immense psychological pressure due to personal conflicts within her family and setbacks in her professional engagements.

Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, when she fell from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. The police then registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR).

In March 2025, Satish Salian went to the Bombay High Court seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the incident. He also asked for an FIR to be filed against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray on charges of his daughter's death under mysterious circumstances and cover-up to protect influential people.

A bench headed by Justice A.S. Gadkari heard the case on Wednesday and fixed a hearing on July 16.

Replying to the allegations, Malvani police, which had investigated the case initially, reasserted in their affidavit that Disha had died of suicide. Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar, who made the statement, mentioned that Salian was inebriated to a large extent and emotionally stressed due to domestic problems and failing business interests.

Her fiancé, who was with her at the time of the incident, also dismissed any doubts of foul play, police said. "I say that in the light of the circumstances and witness accounts, the deceased Disha Salian voluntarily jumped from the window of the flat and killed herself," the affidavit read.

The postmortem report too did not indicate any abnormalities or signs of assault, police said.

The affidavit termed Satish Salian's allegations as "baseless and unfounded" and noted that the closure report in the case was the outcome of a thorough scientific probe and backed by medical evidence. "The report is conclusive in nature and mentions no trace of sexual and/or physical assault on the deceased," the police further added.

The affidavit also stated that after the preliminary investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, which made conclusions in line with the previous findings of the Mumbai Police. "But further investigation is still being conducted," the document continued.

In a new submission on Wednesday, Satish Salian contended that the police had a duty to file an FIR when they received information indicating a cognisable offence. He charged that the SIT started probing serious allegations of rape and murder without filing an FIR first, which was in violation of procedural law.

He also charged the OoMaha state government with violating an earlier court order, noting that an affidavit was requested from the chief secretary and not from the police department.

Aditya Thackeray has filed a petition to intervene in the case, seeking an opportunity to state his case before the court makes any orders. Thackeray called the petition presented by Satish Salian as "false, frivolous and motivated."
