Arunachal Musician Charged for Publicly Killing Chicken and Drinking Its Blood

Kon Waii Son is a songwriter, composer, and musician residing at Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh's East Kameng district. Policemen have filed an FIR at Itanagar Police Station against Kon Waii Son after the death of the chicken from which it drank blood as complaint has been filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), India.

Officials said that an FIR has been registered against the artist Kon Waii Son under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960 for public killing of a chicken by slitting its throat and then drinking the blood of the bird, on the occasion of one recent performance in Itanagar. Officials said this on Tuesday.

A massive controversy erupted in Itanagar after the artist killed the chicken and drank its blood during a performance on October 28.

The social media posts with the video of the incident mostly invited criticism against the artist.

PETA India urges perpetrators of animal abuse to seek psychiatric evaluation and subsequent counseling as this speaks of a deep psychological disturbance.

PETA India says that the vast majority of animal abusers are repeat offenders, progressing to harm other animals, and even humans.
According to a report by *Forensic Research & Criminology International Journal*, chances are threefold that an animal cruelty offender would go on to commit other crimes. These are murder, rape, robbery, assault, harassment, threats, and drug or substance abuse.

PETA India today filed a petition with the Central government asking it to amended the PCA Act increasing the multiple of penalties imposed for acts of cruelty to animals.
