Hyderabad Police on Friday arrested Tollywood actor Allu Arjun in the case registered against him in connection with a stampede at a theatre during the premiere show of 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' on December 4.
A woman died and her son was critically injured during the stampede at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere show attended by Allu Arjun. A police team from Chikkadpally Police Station took the actor into custody from his house in Jubilee Hills and shifted him to Police Station.
Allu Arjun's father, well-known filmmaker Allu Arvind, and other family members were present when he was detained. Police had registered a case under sections 105 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 118(1) (Voluntarily causing hurt) r/w 3(5) BNS against Allu Arjun, his security team and the management of the theatre.
The case was registered at Chikkadpally Police Station on December 5 on a complaint by the deceased woman's husband. Dec 8 On the same day, December 8, the theatre owner, general manager, and security manager were also arrested by the police. Dec 11 The same day, December 11, the actor approached Telangana High Court demanding that the FIR be quashed. Police said it wasn't intimated by theater management or the actor's side beforehand that they would be arriving at the theater.
The theatre management did not make any additional provision regarding security to manage the crowd. Allu Arjun on December 6 announced an assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the deceased's family and said that he is "deeply heartbroken".
The actor assured the grieving family that he would meet them personally and extend every possible assistance. Allu Arjun said he would support the boy's medical expenses, and for now, the boy remains in a critical condition.
"Deeply heartbroken by this tragic incident that happened in Sandhya Theatre. Sincere condolences to the aggrieved family during this unbelievable trying period. I just want them to know that they aren't alone and will see the family themselves. Not wanting to intrude into their space needed to process this, yet committed to doing everything possible in my way to help them get through this," he posted on social media platform X.
