In a disturbing development, actor Akshay Kumar has become a victim of a deepfake scandal as a manipulated video has surfaced online featuring the superstar endorsing a gaming application.
According to sources, "The actor has never indulged in promotions of any such activity. The source of this video is being looked into, and legal action is underway for misusing the actor’s identity for false advertising. A cyber complaint against the social media handle and the company has been filed for creating and promoting this fake video." In the AI-generated video, Akshay is shown saying, “Do you like to play too? I advise you to download this application and try the aviator game. This is the most popular slot all over the world everyone plays here. We are not playing against the casino but against other players.” Some users in the comment section flagged it as "Fake alert," with one fan specifically mentioning "Deep fake."
Sources close to the actor revealed, "He is deeply upset at having his identity misused and has instructed his team to deal with this matter using all legal remedies available."
This incident adds to the growing concern of deepfake videos circulating on the internet, with actors like Rashmika Mandanna, Nora Fatehi, Katrina Kaif, Kajol, and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar having faced similar issues in the past. The rise of deepfake technology poses challenges not only for celebrities but also for maintaining trust and authenticity in digital content.
