In later episodes of the reality show, Akanksha also spoke about the reasons that ultimately led to the end of her decade-long marriage.

While interacting with co-contestants Shreya Kalra and Sufi Motiwala on Lock Upp Season 2, she said, "Jab hum shaadi mein the, mera maternal instinct kabhi nahi tha (When we were married, I never had a maternal instinct). Akanksha also addressed discussions around her sexual orientation on the show. As speculation intensified, she revealed that she had been in relationships with women before marrying Gaurav Khanna, saying, "Mujhe ladkiya pasand hain. Main admire karti hoon, main attract hoti hoon unki taraf. I think woh mera safe space hai (I love women; I admire and am attracted to them. They are my safe space)."

The issue had also surfaced during Bigg Boss 19 last year, when Gaurav Khanna faced allegations of using his personal life to gain sympathy after speaking about his wife's decision not to have children.
