Two of the top-ranked Indian Institutes of Technology—Bombay and Delhi—have once more proven their position in the world by featuring in the top 150 universities globally, according to the QS World University Rankings 2025.
IIT Bombay, which has secured the 118th position globally, has jumped an impressive 31 positions from the previous year's rank of 149th. The institute has performed well, gathering an overall score of 56.3 out of 100. The institute's score was very good in employer reputation (86.0), citations per faculty (79.1), academic reputation (58.5), employment outcomes (64.5), and sustainability (52.5). Other scores that were good to note included the faculty-student ratio (14.4), international faculty (4.3), international research network (52.3), and international students (1.3). The institute said it felt proud to secure its first-ever entry into the top 150 institutions ranked by QS.
The institute further said it was its best ever QS World University Rank and that it speaks to the global position of the institute. It further said notable highlights of its performance include being in the top 100 world universities by employer reputation and its good standing in Citations per Faculty and academic reputation. More so, the institute was ranked among the top five Indian institutes across all parameters, including academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes, and international research network. IIT Delhi has, therefore, performed impressively in outperforming over 90% of the globally ranked institutions by QS in 2025.
But more importantly, its performance in the wide field of engineering and technology placed it among the top 50 institutions worldwide, being the 45th. Further recognition in eight subject areas has highlighted the true multi-disciplinary academic nature of this global standing institute.
