NCERT Textbooks to Be Cheaper Starting 2025, New Books for Classes 9-12 by 2026: Dharmendra Pradhan

The minister also announced that the new textbooks under the updated curriculum for classes 9-12 will be available from the 2026-27 academic session.

Next year, NCERT books of classes will be available at reduced costs," Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Tuesday. "The council, that prints 5 crore copies of textbooks every year now will boost the capacity to 15 crore next year," he said.

The minister also announced that the new textbooks under the updated curriculum for classes 9-12 will be available from the 2026-27 academic session.

"Next year, NCERT will print 15 crore quality and affordable books….currently it prints nearly 5 crore textbooks. Earlier there have been concerns about demand and supply issue about the textbooks, however, that will be addressed now," Pradhan told reporters.

"Since, the volume of printing of books is going to be high, the prices of textbooks for some classes will be reduced. However, the price will not be increased for any class to ensure there is no financial burden on parents," he added.

The minister further told that the process of upgradation of textbooks according to the new National Curriculum Framework is ongoing.

"The process is on and textbooks for classes 9-12 will be ready by the 2026-27 academic session," he said.
