The students in the letter said that this is going to be the first national-level exam after the 2nd covid wave. They further claimed that out of 3 lakh students who would be appearing for the exams, the majority of them have not been vaccinated with the first shot.

“This is going to be first all India level exam after deadly 2nd wave which is not yet over...we would also like to address that over 3 lakh students will be appearing in these exams from all over India and majority of them are not even vaccinated with at least single dose of vaccine,” students said in the letter.

They said that it will be ‘injustice’ to them and their families if the exam is given green light in the current situation. However, they clarified that nobody wishes to cancel the exams, rather postpone it to a further suitable date. They said the exam should be postponed for “some days”, allowing them to appear in it without any fear.

The ICAI had earlier introduced an opt-out option for the students. According to that, students who test positive for Covid, or have a Covid positive family member can opt-out of the exam provided they submit proof of their illness.

It also said, “the last attempt of the old course for Final and Intermediate (IPC) examinations shall be extended to November 2021 examinations only for those students who are allowed to opt-out from May/July 2021 examinations.”

The Supreme Court of India will hear a plea for an Opt-Out option to aspirants of the upcoming CA exams on Monday.
