Zomato, a popular food and grocery ordering platform, announced on Thursday that it has received the approval of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to change its name to "Eternal Limited" from March 20, 2025.
Earlier this month, Zomato shareholders voted in favor of a special resolution to name the company "Eternal." Although the corporate entity will be renamed Eternal, the food delivery service brand name, Zomato, and app will not change. The stock ticker of the company will also be revised to incorporate the new name.
The new company, Eternal, will have four core businesses: Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
In a filing with the regulators, Zomato confirmed that the Registrar of Companies, within the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, had given approval for the change of name with effect from March 20. This is in line with the company's mission to expand beyond its core food delivery business.
Zomato CEO and founder Deepinder Goyal explained why in a shareholder letter last month, pointing out that when Blinkit was bought by the company, they already started referring internally to "Eternal" in order to refer to the brand and corporate entity separately. "As Blinkit becomes increasingly key to driving our future growth, the time came to formalise the rename of the corporate entity to Eternal," he said. "We will move our corporate site from zomato.com to eternal.com and update our stock ticker symbol," Goyal added. The new name mirrors Zomato's wider ambitions, setting out Blinkit as an integral part of its continuing growth.
