On Tuesday, Google said it would buy Wiz, a New York-based cloud security leader, for $32 billion in cash. Upon completion of the acquisition, Wiz will be integrated into Google Cloud, which is a huge step by the tech giant to further solidify its leadership in two fast-growing fields in the AI age: advanced cloud security and multi-cloud.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said, "Since its first days, Google's deep commitment to security has established us as a leader at protecting people around the world in the online environment. Now, companies and governments that are living in the cloud are seeking yet more robust security solutions, as well as greater cloud computing provider choice."
He added, "Together, Wiz and Google Cloud will accelerate better cloud security and the choice of using several clouds.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian pointed out the common vision of Google Cloud and Wiz to bring cybersecurity closer to all businesses regardless of size and sector. "Enabling more companies to prevent cyber-attacks, including in very complex business software environments, will help organizations reduce the cost, disruption, and hassle of cybersecurity incidents," Kurian further stated.
Cybersecurity and cloud computing are emerging industries with multivarious services, and they are both burgeoning industries growing immensely. With increasing power from AI and enhanced utilisation of the cloud, there has been a change in security that emphasizes the need for stronger cybersecurity to resist new threats and secure national security.
Assaf Rappaport, Co-Founder and CEO of Wiz, noted, “Wiz and Google Cloud are fully committed to continue supporting and protecting customers across all major clouds, helping keep them safe and secure wherever they operate.”
Wiz provides a simple security platform that supports all the leading cloud vendors and code environments to assist with preventing cyber attacks. Startups, large enterprises, governments, and public sector agencies can all use Wiz's solutions to protect everything they build and run in the cloud.
