In August 2023, Mukesh Ambani has appointed his three children — twins Akash and Isha, and Anant — as non-executive directors of the group as a step towards possible future succession to the leadership at the very top.

Mukesh Ambani, who still features on the richest in Asia list, had already indicated that he would want his children to occupy major roles at Reliance, India's most valued and most profitable firm. Akash, the older brother, has been chairman of Jio Infocomm, the telecom unit, since June 2022, having joined the company initially in 2014. Isha is leading Reliance's retail, e-commerce, and luxury businesses, while Anant leads the group's new energy business. The three brothers are also directors at Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail, the subsidiaries that run the conglomerate's digital, telecom, and retail businesses.

He has been the group's head of energy business since August 2022 and a director on the board of Jio Platforms Ltd since March 2020, Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd since May 2022, and Reliance New Energy Ltd and Reliance New Solar Energy Ltd since June 2021. In addition to that, he is also a director on the board of the group's CSR subsidiary, Reliance Foundation, since September 2022.
