Zomato Faces Rs 11.81 Crore GST Demand and Penalty

Zomato, the popular online food delivery platform, has recently been slapped with a goods and services tax (GST) demand and penalty order totaling Rs 11.81 crore.

In a regulatory filing to the stock exchange, Zomato disclosed, "The company has received an order for the period July 2017 to March 2021 passed by Additional Commissioner, Central Goods and Services Tax, Gurugram raising demand of GST of Rs 5,90,94,889 with applicable interest (not quantified) and penalty of Rs 5,90,94,889."

Earlier this month, Zomato had disclosed receiving notices from tax authorities in Delhi and Karnataka regarding alleged short payment of GST in 2018, amounting to Rs 4.2 crore.

Asserting its stance, the company had announced plans to contest these tax demand notices.

In a noteworthy financial achievement, Zomato reported a profit of Rs 125 crore in the third quarter (Q3) of the last financial year (FY24), marking a significant improvement of Rs 390 crore compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
