Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu took to social media on a Sunday, slamming Cyriac Abby Philips aka 'The Liver Doctor', over some of his dismissive remarks on barefoot walking. Vembu shared on X that he has been indulging in barefoot walking on his farm for almost a year now and said it was like "grounding" with numerous benefits.
He described walking barefoot as a simple, free, and harmless habit, indicating that it has been normal practice in the countryside for generations. Vembu said he had got used to it so much that he does not think about it anymore. "It's worth a try," he encouraged.
Reacting to this, 'The Liver Doctor' has termed the practice of grounding or earthing as "pseudoscientific," adding that the same had no relevant clinical values now. He further condemned the Indian health system, saying it should teach its people to stop getting wrong advices from people like Vembu, who does not know anything when it comes to healthcare.
Vembu responded back, through his advice against the doctors with pride. According to him, a great doctor is one who is humble enough, with regard to the intricacies of the human body—a great doctor seeing practice as a constantly evolving science, and practicing with an open mind.
He further asserted, great doctors would not go about hate mongering those they know nothing about.
The practice of barefoot walking in a human environment has generated a significant number of scientific debates, with hypotheses in disagreement about its advantages and limitations. Whereas most of the present evidence is derived from laboratory studies, there is surging interest in understanding from an evolutionary perspective the long-term effects of barefoot walking.
