A Padma Vibhushan recipient, Ratan Tata has left behind a mammoth legacy and has engraved an indelible mark on the nation.
Tata was one of the foremost industrialist forces of India who put the nation on the path of progress. An enormous volume of work made him a loner in the later phase of life, but he did enjoy little joys of life. One such was his romantic walk on the beach with actress Simi Garewal.
Recalling one such moment, he told actress Simi Garewal on her chat show 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal' how he once walked on a beach with her, and the serenity of the moment helped him clear his mind off all the work-related stuff. His words cemented his stature as a towering personality who looked at life through a very basic lens devoid of any colour.
For the first time, let me introduce Ratan Tata. At one point of time, he had gone all gaga over the lovely actress Simi Garewal. The lady confesses that they even planned to get married, but destiny had other plans.
Ratan Tata was the son of Naval Tata. But Naval Tata was adopted by Ratanji Tata. Here is where it gets a bit confusing. Ratanji Tata was the son of Jamshedji Tata who founded the Tata Group.
Ratan Tata shaped the landscape of modern industrial advancement in India. His empire spreads from metals to hospitality, FMCG, lifestyle, telecom, infrastructure, aerospace, and technology.
He received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor conferred on an Indian citizen. In 2000, he had already won the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honor.
He joined the Tata group in 1961 and later became the chairman of Tata Sons after the retirement of J. R. D. Tata in 1991. Under his tenure, the Tata Group acquired Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus to convert Tata, largely an India-centric group, into a global company.
The Indian film industry, like people from other sections of society, has been mourning the death of Ratan Tata who passed away to his heavenly abode on October 9. There have been demands that he be honoured with posthumous title Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in Republic of India.
