On this matter, US President Joe Biden discussed the progress of the landmark India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, with whom he also underscored that the project shall be able to usher in a "new era of international connectivity."
The ambitious undertaking was launched in New Delhi at the 2023 G20 Leaders' Summit by the leadership of India, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union. When finished, it would link India by ship-to-rail links through the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, and Europe through Greece.
At a meeting held at White House Monday, Biden and Zayed renewed that corridor will spur economic growth, boost efficiencies, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable transformational integration of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, the joint statement said.
The two leaders emphasized the transformative partnership may usher in a "new era of international connectivity" to facilitate global trade and clean energy distribution, expand reliable access to electricity, and strengthen telecommunication.
According to the statement, they further underlined the need for combined initiatives to promote a circular economy and sustainable practice, underlining their commitment to innovation for resource efficiency and responsible growth.
Earlier, welcoming Zayed to the White House, Biden said, "UAE is a nation of trailblazers who's always looking to the future and making big bets. That's something our countries have in common and our people have in common. In fact, it's a cornerstone of our growing cooperation in AI, in clean energy, in space, and investing in infrastructure to connect regions.".
He further vowed to regard the UAE as a major defense partner of the United States, whereas it was the only other nation except for India to be accorded this status.
