Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, has achieved a significant milestone as the first Indian citizen to receive an honorary knighthood from the United Kingdom.
Bestowed with the title of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) by King Charles III, Mittal is recognized "for services to UK and India business relations." The KBE stands as one of the highest honors granted by the British sovereign to civilians, often awarded to foreign nationals in an honorary capacity.
Expressing gratitude for the prestigious recognition, Mittal remarked, "I am deeply humbled by this gracious recognition from His Majesty, King Charles." Highlighting the longstanding historical ties between the UK and India, Mittal emphasized the importance of fostering increased cooperation and collaboration between the two nations.
Remaining steadfast in his commitment to enhancing economic and bilateral trade relationships, Mittal pledged to continue working towards strengthening ties between the UK and India. He acknowledged the crucial support and attention from the UK government, which has contributed to making the country an attractive investment destination.
In addition to this recent accolade, Mittal's illustrious career includes being honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2007, one of India's highest civilian honors. The Padma Bhushan recognizes individuals for their distinguished and exemplary services of the highest order.
