The combined market capitalisation of seven of the top 10 most valued companies surged by Rs 1,40,863.66 crore while the trading schedule was curtailed by a day in the past week. This rise came on the back of nearly 1 per cent gain in the Sensex. Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys were the top gainers as the upbeat sentiment spilled over into the stocks.
The BSE Sensex added 730.93 points, or 0.91 per cent, in the week on the back of a strong rally in its last session.
TCS' market capitalisation increased from Rs 67,477.33 crore to Rs 15,97,946.44 crore. Infosys' valuation too jumped sharply by Rs 36,746.21 crore to Rs 7,72,023.49 crore.
Other firms that saw major gains are Bharti Airtel—its market value surged by Rs 11,727.55 crore to Rs 8,45,123.87 crore, ICICI Bank gained Rs 10,913.96 crore in valuation at Rs 8,36,115.19 crore. ITC's market cap zoomed by Rs 8,569.73 crore to Rs 6,28,399.10 crore, while Reliance Industries added Rs 5,311.4 crore to its valuation at Rs 20,00,076.41 crore.
At the end of today's trading, Hindustan Unilever's valuation jumped by Rs 117.48 crore to Rs 6,45,926.13 crore; Life Insurance Corporation of India's fell by Rs 47,943.48 crore to Rs 6,69,058.26 crore. The market capitalization of HDFC Bank tumbled Rs 13,064 crore to Rs 12,43,441.53 crore, while the State Bank of India slipped Rs 10,486.42 crore to Rs 7,25,080.10 crore.
