Elon Musk, the world's wealthiest individual, faces concerns from executives and board members at Tesla and SpaceX over alleged drug usage, including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms. These reported behaviors have sparked worries about his well-being and the potential impact on his businesses.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, there's a persistent concern among some company leaders that Musk's behavior might be influenced by drug use. The report suggests Musk has indulged in LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms at private gatherings, based on sources familiar with the matter.
In response, Elon Musk's attorney, Alex Spiro, refuted the claims, stating that Musk undergoes regular and random drug testing at SpaceX, passing each test. Spiro dismissed the report's accuracy, citing "false facts" without specifying.
However, insiders close to Musk at Tesla and SpaceX purportedly assert that his drug use persists, with mentions of his consumption of ketamine. Musk himself mentioned having a prescription for ketamine as an antidepressant last August.
In reaction to the WSJ report, Musk took to social media, criticizing the publication's credibility. He dismissed its value, likening it to being unfit even for lining a birdcage.
Previously, Musk attracted attention during a 2018 appearance on comedian Joe Rogan's podcast, where he smoked what Rogan claimed was marijuana and drank whiskey. This incident prompted scrutiny from the Pentagon, which, due to its contracts with SpaceX, began investigating Musk's marijuana use, as it's prohibited for individuals with government security clearance.
Musk clarified in his recent post that, following the podcast incident, he consented to three years of random drug testing at NASA's request. He emphasized that no traces of drugs or alcohol were found during these tests, asserting his compliance with regulatory standards.
