Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in a significant meeting with Sanjay Mehrotra, the CEO and President of Micron Technology, during his visit to the US. The focus of their discussion centered on exploring the expansive opportunities available for Micron to enhance its presence within India's burgeoning semiconductor ecosystem.
"Met Mr. Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO & President of MicronTech. Discussed how India's growing semiconductor ecosystem presents vast opportunities for the company to collaborate & expand its footprint in the country," the Union Minister said in a post on X following Wednesday's meeting.
This meeting follows Sanjay Mehrotra's prior interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar back in July. During that meeting, discussions revolved around Micron Technology's intentions to bolster India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
In alignment with India's aspirations to emerge as a pivotal global hub for semiconductor manufacturing, Micron Technology had previously unveiled plans in June to invest $825 million in establishing a new chip assembly and testing facility in Gujarat.
Additionally, during his four-day visit to the US, Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in a roundtable discussion with eminent academicians at Stanford University, fostering dialogue on critical facets within the domain.
"Held a roundtable discussion with prominent academicians at Stanford University. Highlighted the vast opportunities for collaboration with India's higher education institutions to foster a vibrant exchange of knowledge, research and pathbreaking solutions to key global issues,” Goyal posted on X.
During a meeting with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, Union Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the lucrative investment prospects available in India.
Reflecting on the discussion, Goyal expressed the enriching nature of the interaction, underscoring India's promising attributes such as its youthful talent pool, dynamic business ecosystem, and flourishing economy.
He accentuated how these factors collectively present an ideal landscape for investment opportunities, inviting entrepreneurs and venture capitalists to explore and contribute to India's thriving market.
